Napa Valley has a history that is almost as rich as the wines that happen to inhabit it. Everybody knows this region as the prime place to get fresh, delicious bottles of handmade wine, but not everybody understands what led up to this point in time. Pioneers started planted grape vines back in 1839, and the first commercial winery was established later in 1861. By 1889, there were more than 140 operating wineries. Prohibition, invasive bugs and a surplus of grapes halted the bountiful production during the turn of the 20th century and some years that followed it. After Prohibition, the gears began turning!
